I've decided to make a video game. I thought about it for a long time, and I talked to many people, and this seems like not only the most practical and cost-effective option, but also the most creative and enjoyable for me personally.
Making a video game has been something I've wanted to do for a long time, but I've never been able to follow through on it. Perhaps the hardest hurdle for me to overcome is not knowing what to expect. I am the type of person who likes to plan for all outcomes, and with a project as complex and creative as a video game, there are bound to be many unforeseen variables and challenges that I can't predict.
Another difficulty will definitely be determining what to focus on as the subject for my video game. I want it to be fun and enjoyable--epic even! But with the time that I have and a budget of essentially zero dollars, I may have to scale down my vision. In the meantime, though, the following guidelines seem like an acceptable place to start:
(requirements: either a clear premise that revolves around a social issue or a complete narrative, full audio (including both sound effects and sound track), original artwork (characters and backgrounds), and at least 3 levels of play)
Also, if this idea goes well, it will make a great project to assign to my students!
