About MeMy role as an educator came about from a desire to help others make sense of their lives and their place in the world. Helping others to understand themselves is a big part of my teaching philosophy, due mainly to my own experience as a struggling student. In high school, I often had trouble focusing, and it was only after I better understood myself as a learner that I was able to really benefit from my school experience. After I was finally able to understand myself and the ways I learned best, learning became easier--a joy rather than a chore. This change in thinking has had a profound impact on my own quality of life, and I seek to help others obtain this same understanding so that their time in school can be enriching and meaningful.

Technology and Other Interests |
I am interested in everything from Minecraft to makerspaces. I am especially interested in virtual reality. I've been experimenting with the Google Cardboard app and viewer, and I'm eagerly awaiting the release of the commercial versions of the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive virtual reality headsets, not to mention the eventual release of the Microsoft Hololens augmented reality headset. I see great potential for using these devices to help students gain a much more valuable and immersive learning experience, and I can't wait to start implementing these learning tools in my classroom.
I am also especially interested in working with districts, school sites, and companies that have a forward-thinking view when it comes to classroom technology and that recognize the importance and benefits of utilizing this technology. I've also been fortunate enough to work with some great professors at CSUSM this year, helping out with afterschool Minecraft events, and I even got to present some of our work at the SDCUE 2015 event! I'm looking forward to assisting and presenting even more in the future. |
